Hello,
This is a video which chronicles sights I've seen when I moved to the USA from my native country, Guyana.
The sights were like none I'd seen before, although I had travelled quite a bit. I included some narration and music in the video as I told the story digitally.
Hope you enjoy it.
Zenobia.

Chrissy digital

For my cultural aspect, I chose HipHop [note- I did not say 'rap'].
I thought it was something that has evolved into a well known form of entertainment. HipHop in its original form has four elements: DJing, MCing, Breaking and Graffiti. I tried to depict each separate using different examples.

My personal connection to HipHop is that I have been a huge fan since early elementary school.
When I was eleven, I memorized the words to Ladi Dadi and rewrote a version of the rhyme myself. I always wished I could break like my brother, but I never made it past a basic pop-lock. My little brother became a talented DJ, and I was a so-so rapper and graffiti artist. I always knew there was power in words, and writing rhymes was one of many ways to express it.
I went to every show I could, and I've seen nearly all the original rappers in concert. I had stacks of those old cassette tapes- many recorded from the radio. Later, that collection became CD's; now mp3's. I haven't listened to the radio in about 10 years, but I am constantly listening to music. HipHop is still very present and meaningful to me, though about half of what I listen to is about two decades old. I take to the modern artists who demonstrate "old school" qualities.

My husband and I are both HipHop purists, which is something we both appreciate daily. That small subsection of people is very ethnic, gender, and age specific. I just happen to not fall in on the gender line; which makes me the only female purist I know.

I have a strong sense of appreciation for the pioneers and those who followed right after them, and I truly admire the talent they share- especially because I lack it myself. Hopefully my video reflects that, and doesn't just look like a mishmash of random stuff.

A North American Tradition - Monarch Butterfly Migration

My digital story tells about the amazing migration of the Monarch Butterfly. It is a North American tradition that begins in Mexico or Southern California and touches almost every part of the U.S. It has been a "tradition" for over ten thousand years when butterflies who originated in Mexico started to look for more food.

I am America - A Digital Story

"I am America" is a poem by Julie Redstone who writes of the recognizable yet often obscure aspects of the U.S.A.

Having wanted to create my Digital Story to tell of the eclecticism of America and what it truly means to be American, I found this poem through a Google search, and thought is was the perfect fit.

The author describes a country rich, broad, and diverse in nature, ranging from the serious and pertinent to the frivilous and light-hearted. She captures the true essence of America.

To enhance her thoughts and ideas I collected a range of images, and to emphasize the essence of the poem I added patriotic music from the U.S Marine Band.

I hope I have created a Digital Story that is informative and original.

Rituals and Technology

I see the drum as a tool that is manufactured and used for the specific purpose of inducing trance or possession in the believers in rituals in many places across the planet. To shorten a long story, I made this itsy bitsy video.

Bob Ford - Digital Story - Vietnam

As complex as American society is today, the history that that brought us to where we are now, is even more complex. As a public school student, during our country's involvement in the war in Vietnam, the images of the war I saw every day on television played a major part in developing my perspective of how and why this war was being fought. I love living and working in America but, many of us fail to seek a global perspective on world events. Those of us that live in this part of the country, live demanding stressful lives. But despite this, we understand the great responsibility we have to help not only our neighbors in our own community but, our neighbors in our global community as well. As we now communicate daily with the world, our global perspectives are evolving. As time passes, and major international issues arise, I believe it will become natural for us to act as a member of the Global Community. Bob Ford

National Park Sites - My Trip to Dry Tortugas National Park

There are over 400  National Park sites across America and it's territories. These sites are found all over America.   They include National parks, forts, battle sites, graves, and homes of famous Americans to name a few.  Each of these places has stories to share.  My visit to Dry Tortugas National Park in Florida is an experience that can be visited in person or through the NPS.gov website.  My video shows the beauty as well as the rich history of this park. I also tell 3 distinct stories of the different groups of people who have come in one way or another to this unique place. National Park sites truly show that our country is truly a melting pot of cultures.- Bruce Wilson
